Nintendo recently revealed that the Nintendo Switch 2’s eShop won’t feature any background music while you browse around. This might come as a surprise, especially for those who fondly remember the iconic Wii Shop Channel tune, which has become a sensation all on its own. The Nintendo 3DS eShop also had its catchy background tracks, switching up the tunes to keep things fresh.
Kouichi Kawamoto, the producer for Nintendo Switch 2, shared some insights with Polygon. He mentioned that the decision not to include music was because the current eShop environment is filled with game videos and they didn’t want the music to interfere with those. Interestingly enough, Kawamoto still finds the Wii Shop Channel’s melody comes to mind often.
In terms of improving the eShop experience on the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo aims to ensure the platform is as user-friendly as possible. They’re focusing on creating a seamless browsing experience where lists scroll without delay and pages load in a flash, making it all much quicker and more enjoyable.
Mark your calendars, because the Nintendo Switch 2 is slated for release across the globe on June 5, 2025. Get ready for the next chapter in your gaming journey!
