If the small screens of handheld devices weren’t quite cutting it for you, get ready for something new. Tencent is stepping up the game for handheld fans with a fresh offering that’s more of a portable console than a typical handheld device. Videocardz has highlighted Tencent’s latest project, the Sunday Dragon 3D One, which boasts an impressively large 11-inch display. This is powered by Intel’s Lunar Lake CPU, promising an immersive gaming experience—provided you can manage its size in your hands.
The 3D One comes equipped with a Core Ultra 7 258V, featuring four P-Cores (Lion Cove), four E-Cores (Skymont), and an Arc 140V iGPU with eight Xe2 cores. Our tests suggest that Intel’s newest processors in the Lunar Lake series are catching up with AMD’s Strix Point (Ryzen AI 300 APUs) for gaming performance. It packs in 32GB of LPDDR5X-8533 RAM, which is ample for most modern applications, although, bear in mind, it’s soldered onto the CPU and can’t be upgraded. Look forward to a “high-speed” 1TB SSD, which seems to be upgradable if you’re seeking more speed or storage.
Intriguingly, the 3D One might just be the first Lunar Lake-powered handheld to hit the market, assuming it launches this year. This is especially so with MSI’s Claw 8 AI+ aiming for a debut not until early 2025. But hold your horses—the 3D One is currently just a prototype, at least for now, as Videocardz mentions. With its sprawling 11-inch 2560×1440 screen and a 120Hz refresh rate, this device could double as a laptop given its size. By contrast, GPD’s upcoming Pocket 4 miniatures cap at an 8.8-inch display. Tencent is taking it a step further by integrating real-time eye-tracking technology, offering a 3D viewing experience without the need for glasses. They’ve reportedly fine-tuned games like Path of Exile, Blade & Soul, and Arena Breakout: Infinite to harness this feature.
In terms of design, the pre-installed controllers utilize Hall Effect joysticks, linear triggers, and back buttons you can customize. These controllers are detachable, which means you’re free to use third-party options provided they fit the 3D One’s unique form. Additionally, there’s support for 100W fast charging, though details on the battery capacity are still under wraps.
Aesthetically, the 3D One marches to its own beat with an unusual design. Normally, handheld devices are crafted with ergonomics in mind, ideal for extended play, but sometimes, they fall short in delivering the immersive visuals larger screens offer. Since this device is still a prototype, availability could be limited both geographically and due to its specific appeal in the niche market.
