Sony has just revealed that it will be cutting the price of its PSVR 2 headset starting next month, trimming it down to an attractive $400 for both PS5 and PC users.
When Sony brought the PSVR 2 into the world nearly two years back, it came with a $550 price tag. But now, despite a quiet two-year anniversary and a lack of highlights during the recent State of Play, the tech giant has opted to drop the price to $400 in the US, €550 in Europe, £400 in the UK, and ¥66,980 in Japan, starting this March.
What’s particularly noteworthy is that this new MSRP won’t only benefit those looking to get the standard PSVR bundle, which packs in the headset, two Sense controllers, and headphones. The price cut also extends to the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle, which originally launched with a $600 price point back in February 2023.
Looking back, this isn’t the first time PSVR 2 has seen a significant price drop. Back in November 2024, there was a sale where the Horizon bundle was slashed to as low as $350. So, who knows, there might be even greater deals on the horizon.
Despite Sony’s attempt to highlight a range of high-quality content for PSVR 2 in its latest announcement, including titles like Skydance’s Behemoth, Metro Awakening VR, and Alien: Rogue Incursion — plus upcoming games such as Aces of Thunder, Dreams of Another, Hitman World of Assassination, and The Midnight Walk — it seems they’re still not fully backing the PSVR 2.
Up to this point, Sony’s first-party contributions to the PSVR 2 ecosystem have been relatively sparse, focusing primarily on releases like Horizon Call of the Mountain and VR modes for Gran Turismo 7, Resident Evil Village, and Resident Evil 4 Remake. This stands in stark contrast to the robust lineup seen with the 2016 PSVR, which boasted incredible games like Astro Bot Rescue Mission, Blood & Truth, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, PlayStation VR Worlds, and more alongside popular VR modes for Gran Turismo Sport and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.
To Sony’s credit, they did extend an olive branch to PSVR 2 users last August with the launch of a $60 PC Adapter. This nifty gadget allows players to connect to a VR-ready PC and enjoy games from SteamVR, such as Half-Life: Alyx and Fallout 4 VR. However, it seems Sony’s strategy hints at slowly shifting the PSVR 2 away from being solely tethered to the PS5 ecosystem.
Looking ahead, it’s plausible that we could see further discounts driving increased sales year over year, much like the boost experienced during the Holiday Season. Such promotions could attract more PS5 players eager to explore not only the backlog of excellent games but also the steady influx of third-party titles. If Sony surprises us with another hefty 42% discount like we saw on Black Friday, the PSVR 2 could drop to around $232 — making it a potential hit for anyone’s shopping list.
