There’s no shortage of massive Skyrim quest mods, and among them, one that featured an entire plague scenario mimicking a real epidemic has just received a significant expansion. Known as Death Consumes All, it draws inspiration from The Witcher 3’s fantastic Hearts of Stone DLC.
If you’ve dabbled with the original Death Consumes All, you’re in good company—this version made an explosive entrance in 2020, racking up over 100,000 downloads on Nexus Mods. People were eager to dive into its 10-hour, branching questline that boasted full voice acting, all crafted by the talented Anbeegod. “Why not,” they seemed to say.
Now, Anbeegod has been hard at work on an extensive overhaul, boosting the main questline’s length to a whopping 30 hours. Just released, this new version goes by a slightly tweaked name: ‘Death Consumes All – DLC Quest Mod (Revamped).’
The core concept remains: a deadly plague is rippling through Skyrim, characterized by a gameplay system that eerily mirrors real-world epidemic dynamics. This menace threatens to transform everyone into undead horrors. Along with a true-blue follower named Livia Salvian, you’re charged with fending off terrifying opponents, uncovering the truth behind all the horror, and ultimately deciding the fate of the land.
However, this updated mod brings plenty of changes. Anbeegod mentions revamping almost every original quest for improved flow, storytelling, and narrative depth. They’ve also added new quests featuring rich storytelling and diverse choices, even introducing a new opening quest, thereby increasing the quest tally from over 13 to more than 17. Improvements extend to the voice acting, with 1,000 additional lines of dialogue enriching the experience.
In a game-changing move, there’s an option to “toggle off the plague,” sparing NPCs from its lethal wrath—a feature medieval folk certainly would have appreciated back in the 14th century. Other updates aim to make encounters feel more strategically sound and solve potential bugs and mod conflicts.
For those ready to plunge into 30 hours of dark, undead slaying, it’s all set to be a thrilling ride for the Dragonborn, ever wondering why they constantly land in apocalyptic scenarios. Plus, Anbeegod has pledged to donate 50% of the mod’s donation points to Doctors Without Borders, aiding real-world epidemic relief efforts—a commendable gesture indeed.
