Developer People Can Fly and Sony Interactive Entertainment have teamed up to create an exciting new video game, currently going by the codename “Project Delta,” as revealed by both companies today. While the official details of this partnership were finalized just yesterday, the specifics of the project remain under wraps. However, PlayStation enthusiasts are buzzing with speculation that it might be a new installment in the SOCOM series.
An observant member of the PS5 subreddit on Reddit noticed the collaboration between People Can Fly and Sony, hinting that the game could be based on one of Sony’s existing intellectual properties. People Can Fly, hailing from Poland, is renowned for their shooter entries such as Outriders and Gears of War: Judgment. This expertise narrows down the potential Sony IPs that could be tapped for this new project. Based on discussions from the aforementioned Reddit thread, most fans are leaning towards the possibility of a new SOCOM game, while others speculate about titles like Killzone, Resistance, and Warhawk.
One Reddit user commented, “Has to be either SOCOM or Killzone since this company mostly makes shooters. Resistance as well is a good guess.” Another user expressed, “Wouldn’t mind seeing a reboot of Warhawk. That game had the Fortnite potential before Fortnite. Sony just kinda failed to really capitalize on it.” Meanwhile, another chimed in with a hopeful, “Please God, let it be Resistance.”
Of course, at this stage, everything is purely conjectural. There’s even the faint possibility that it could be a third-person shooter derived from Knack. Realistically, though, it might be a few years before we get any solid information on the matter.
For those who might not know, SOCOM was a third-person tactical shooter series that graced the PS2, PS3, and PSP. The last game in the franchise, SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs, released in 2011, received a mixed reception. According to Metacritic, it garnered an average score of 67 from 64 critic reviews and, unfortunately, the series has remained quiet since then.
