Ever since the news broke about Forza Horizon 5 making its debut on the PS5, it’s like the floodgates have swung wide open for Xbox titles to venture into the realm of Sony’s gaming universe. The buzz has been building, and rumor has it that Marcus Fenix is poised to take his battle against the Locust Horde over to PlayStation consoles by the end of the year. But, the latest whisperings suggest that this won’t be a solo mission; instead, fans can look forward to a collection that bundles the first three Gears of War games, launching simultaneously for both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Exciting News: Gears of War Collection Heading to PS5
Renowned leaker eXtas1s has hinted that a Gears of War collection is in the pipeline. While there’s no official announcement date on the horizon just yet, eXtas1s claims this remastered collection will be available across multiple platforms right from the get-go. What’s more, the game is expected to support cross-play, which means players from PC, Xbox, and PlayStation can team up or face off against each other seamlessly.
In a statement shared and translated by ResetEra member Rychu, eXtas1s mentioned, “I’ve had quite the journey verifying the existence of the Gears Collection, but it seems to be real, and I can confirm that whenever it is announced, it’s set to be a multiplatform release from day one. I’ll say it again: when these remasters come to light, fans of the classic Gears titles will be able to enjoy them across different platforms, allowing for cross-play. Unfortunately, what remains uncertain is whether there will be a version for the Switch, but cross-platform compatibility with PC, Xbox, and PlayStation is expected."
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard rumblings about Gears of War making its way to the PS5. Earlier in the month, Jez Corden from Windows Central entertained the idea that Gears of War: Ultimate Edition could find its way to Sony’s console by 2025.
As with any rumor mill, it’s wise to approach this news with cautious optimism. Although numerous insiders and leakers appear to be echoing similar sentiments, the fluid nature of game development means things can shift rapidly, potentially altering the current trajectory. Until there’s an official announcement, it’s best to keep our hopes tempered and our fingers crossed.
