Ancient Dungeon VR, the beloved rogue-lite dungeon crawler, has embraced a new chapter with its latest update on PSVR 2, finally introducing a multiplayer co-op mode.
Debuting in 2021 on Steam Early Access and the once-active App Lab for Quest, Ancient Dungeon originally captivated players as a solo adventure. It offered over 20 hours of navigating intricate dungeons where players engaged in physics-based battles against pixel-like wizards, skeletons, and other classic D&D villains.
While Quest and SteamVR users celebrated the arrival of four-player co-op in mid-2024, PSVR 2 users were left waiting when the game launched on that platform in December 2023 without this feature.
Today, game creator Eric Thullen has rolled out the much-anticipated multiplayer update for PSVR 2. Now, up to four players can band together to tackle the game’s procedurally-generated labyrinths, evade traps, and defeat foes in an exciting co-op experience.
During a Reddit Q&A, Thullen noted that cross-play isn’t operational among the game’s various platforms at this time. However, he did share the promising news that cross-play between Quest and PC VR is planned for a future update.
Ancient Dungeon has blossomed into one of VR’s standout indie successes. It initially turned heads with a triumphant Kickstarter campaign in 2020 and later launched a well-praised beta that racked up over 1,000 reviews and secured an impressive 4.8/5 rating.
Nearly five years on, the game continues to thrive, consistently rolling out updates that add fresh weapons, cosmetics, upgrades, dungeon floors, and relics. All these enhancements are paving the way for the game’s much-anticipated 1.0 version, which, according to a Steam update, still has some distance to cover.
Gamers can dive into Ancient Dungeon VR on Steam for PC VR headsets, the Horizon Store for Quest, and the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2, all for the price of $20.
