I’ll be diving into a detailed review of “Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island” soon, and I caught up with Alex Kanaris-Sotiriou, co-founder of Polygon Treehouse, to chat about their intriguing new game. Let’s take a look!
PS4Blog: Good morning, Alex! It’s great to have you with us again. How have things been?
Alex: Thank you! I’m glad to be back. It’s certainly been a whirlwind few years since we launched our last indie title, Röki. With Mythwrecked, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to delve into mythology and folklore through a Greek lens, imagining how the gods might exist in today’s era, which has been fascinating.
PS4Blog: So, Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island is launching on the Nintendo Switch on December 5th. What should players expect from this journey?
Alex: We like to describe Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island as an “explore-o-story” game. Players step into the shoes of Alex, a backpacker on a retreat from the hustle and bustle of modern life. However, their vacation takes an unexpected turn when a mysterious storm leaves them stranded on a forgotten island. Throughout the game, you’ll get to know the Greek gods, help them regain their memories, and ultimately, search for a way back home.
PS4Blog: How long have you been working on this project? Have there been any significant changes from your original concept to what players will soon experience?
Alex: It’s been about three years since we began. The core ideas—like the treasure hunting radar and memory flashbacks—have remained consistent from early development. However, the ‘Story Sandbox’ has evolved significantly. It’s where you engage in conversations with the gods, which develop as you progress. I’m particularly excited about this because it deeply immerses players in the unfolding narrative.
PS4Blog: Röki had a physical release, which was fantastic. Any chance Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island will get the same treatment?
Alex: I love physical releases and was thrilled to have one for Röki. For Mythwrecked, I don’t have any updates on that front right now, but it’s definitely a possibility I’m keen on exploring in the future.
PS4Blog: As we wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share?
Alex: Just a big thank you to everyone tuning in! If cozy games, mythology, adventure, or mystery pique your interest, do check out Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island. We believe it’s an indie adventure that will leave a lasting impression.
