Hi there! I’m Oli, the game director at Kaizen Game Works, the minds behind Paradise Killer. Today, I’m excited to let you know that our newest venture, the open-world mascot management crime drama Promise Mascot Agency, is now available as a playable demo on PS5.
We’ve poured a lot of ourselves into this project, and it’s thrilling to finally put it in the hands of PlayStation fans. The PS5 is an incredible platform, and at Kaizen, we’re all huge PlayStation fans—having grown up enjoying titles from the original PlayStation all the way up to the PS4. I even have a collection of games from the PlayStation and PS2 eras, which heavily influenced the design choices for Promise Mascot Agency.
There’s something magical about those classic PS2 games where you can just hang out and get immersed in the environment. If you haven’t tried games like Way of the Samurai, Raw Danger, Boku No Natsuyasumi, and Steambot Chronicles, you’re missing out! They offer the chance to relax, meet fascinating characters, make pivotal decisions, and explore at your own pace. It’s those experiences that inspired us to create a vibrant world filled with intriguing mysteries, quirky characters, secrets, dynamic gameplay, and spot-on vibes.
In Promise Mascot Agency, players get to embody Michi, an exiled yakuza lieutenant. Partnering with the mischievous chaos goblin Pinky, your mission is to breathe new life into a failing mascot agency while unraveling an underworld plot that landed Michi in the paranormal coastal town of Kaso-Machi. This place teems with mascots as living creatures and a cast of misfits who struggle to find employment elsewhere. Michi’s challenge is to assemble a new mascot family, help them realize their dreams, and in doing so, salvage both the business and his yakuza ties.
Kaso-Machi is cloaked in a supernatural curse. Spirits and deities call the central mountain home, making it rich in folklore and eerie tales. Michi’s path includes tackling a mystery centered around ghostly apparitions, runaway sin talismans, and the legendary Tsuchinoko. His time is of the essence, though; the town’s curse promises doom for any yakuza who visits. Will Michi solve the conspiracy and save the agency before the curse seals his fate?
Our journey began about four years ago, working closely with Ikumi Nakamura and Mai Mattori to craft the characters and surroundings. By blending Kaizen’s style with Nakamura-san’s unique artistry, we’ve designed a game that’s nostalgic and outlandishly original. Even as a western company, our collaboration with Japanese artists, musicians, and creatives has been key to bringing an authentically rich world to life. We’ve often given team members the freedom to create something meaningful to them, resulting in a game rich with diverse influences and experiences.
We recently unveiled our voice cast, featuring Takaya Kuroda, the voice of Kiryu Kazuma, as Michi. Getting him on board felt almost unreal—especially when he casually showed up for the audition. Ayano Shibuya joins him as Pinky, forming a delightful buddy-cop duo. The game also boasts a talented lineup of voice actors, including newcomers like Shuhei Yoshida and SWERY.
Creating a quirky, expansive 20-hour RPG with our small team has been a monumental task, but we’re beyond thrilled to finally share it with you. Dive into the demo and make the most of the PS5’s DualSense controller, with its haptics, adaptive triggers, and built-in speaker. We’re excited to reveal more about the full release soon. So, go out there, keep those promises, and chase those dreams!
Don’t wait—snag the demo on the PlayStation Store today!
