Phil Spencer, the CEO of Microsoft Gaming, recently shared his excitement about expanding Xbox games to Nintendo’s platforms, specifically hinting at future releases for the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. During his chat on Gamertag Radio, Spencer couldn’t help but express admiration for Nintendo’s knack for innovation and their tremendous success with the first Switch. He seemed confident that the upcoming Switch 2 would continue that trend. While he stopped short of naming specific Xbox titles coming to Switch 2, Microsoft’s track record suggests they’re definitely open to sharing their content with what are traditionally considered competing consoles.
Microsoft’s presence on platforms beyond Xbox is already well established. Minecraft, for instance, is available just about everywhere, including on the Switch. They’ve also launched two Ori games, as well as Pentiment and Grounded, for Nintendo’s current console. With the Switch 2’s enhanced capabilities expected in 2025, it wouldn’t be surprising to see more demanding Xbox titles, perhaps including games from the Halo series, making their way to it. These were previously confined to the Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
Moreover, Microsoft is already on the path to integrating the Call of Duty series into Nintendo’s offerings. Activision Blizzard, under the Microsoft umbrella, has already brought several popular titles like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 & 2, Diablo 3, and Overwatch 2 to the Switch. It stands to reason that these games or their future iterations could find homes on Switch 2. Spencer hinted broadly at this, suggesting we can expect to see Microsoft games appear in a “wider array of places,” indicating their impressive 2025 Xbox lineup might also pop up on both Switch and PlayStation systems.
