Netflix has given fans another sneak peek at the much-anticipated second season of Squid Game, and while there are some familiar elements, there’s plenty of fresh content to keep viewers on their toes.
With just about a month left until Squid Game season 2 makes its debut, Netflix has dropped a new trailer that teases the challenges awaiting the show’s fictional competitors. Fans will recognize the return of one of the first season’s most infamous games—the one with that eerie giant robot girl where participants must stay perfectly still when she’s looking, or face dire consequences. Seong Gi-hun, the protagonist, is back and attempting to guide a fresh batch of participants through this perilous challenge.
Of course, there are new twists as well. Notably, some games appear to pit players against each other by dividing them into teams marked with X and O symbols. Could this be a subtle jab at how wealth disparities pit social classes against each other? Another game seems to revolve around a merry-go-round. Amidst these trials, Gi-hun appears to be orchestrating a rebellion, aiming to bring the brutal games to an end.
Netflix offers a glimpse into what’s ahead with an official description: “Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) returns, locked in an intense showdown with the mysterious Front Man (Lee Byung-hun). As the new games unfold, the stakes become even deadlier, placing Gi-hun’s mission to stop the games at the forefront. Can he stop the cycle, or will more lives be lost to the system?” As one might expect, Lee is one of the few familiar faces making a comeback, alongside him is an ensemble of newcomers. This includes a confident young player with purple hair and a mother and son team—who’s willing to bet they might end up on opposing X and O teams?
The countdown to season 2 is almost over, with the premiere slated for December 26 on Netflix.
