February 2025 was set to be a quiet month for major game launches—though to be fair, one title did get postponed. Now, it seems, there’s something to get excited about: the launch of “Keep Driving,” an intriguing driving RPG. Here, you’ll be fighting your way through challenges in a turn-based style while collecting all sorts of things.
If you haven’t heard of this unique game yet, I got a chance to play its demo during last year’s Steam Next Fest. And yes, I only narrowly avoided an unfortunate demise courtesy of a puddle, just once! The premise revolves around embarking on a road trip to visit a friend, where both you and your trusty car must tackle the typical road trip challenges—think hunger and fatigue, along with the usual driving hazards.
Now, mark your calendars. “Keep Driving” is slated to roll out on February 6th, exclusively for PCs on Steam. Swedish developer YCJY Games let the world know via a cheerful tweet. Alongside the announcement, they unveiled a new trailer featuring amusing clips of your car in turn-based scuffles with tractors, sheep, and even potholes. Plus, it offers a sneak peek at the extra cars you’ll have available to pile in all the essentials you, your car, and any hitchhikers you pick up will need for the journey ahead. I was quite fond of the demo’s not-quite-Volvo, but I have to admit, the prospect of swapping it for a pickup truck is tempting my inner Johnny Cash enthusiast.
Right now, “Keep Driving” is just for PC players. However, comments from one of the developers hinted it might eventually steer towards consoles, though they’re “not really sure which consoles yet, besides Switch.” I’m crossing my fingers for a PS2 port—there’s something about toggling between this and Need For Speed Underground that just clicks.
In the meantime, let’s hope the full version of “Keep Driving” can rekindle the magic I found so enjoyable the first time around.
