Fresh from his role as the iconic, mustachioed villain Dr. Robotnik in Sonic 3, Jim Carrey has hinted that he might consider returning for future Sonic films, like a potential Sonic 4. However, he’s clear that it all hinges on whether the idea “sounds fun” to him.
This revelation follows Carrey’s return from semi-retirement to star in Sonic 3. During a red carpet interview, he humorously remarked that he’d step back into the spotlight if a script, metaphorically written in “gold ink,” was compelling enough. With a dash of humor, he added that, ultimately, he came back because he found himself in need of money after going on a bit of a buying spree.
In an interview with the Japanese YouTube channel Cinema Today, Carrey commented on the prospect of participating in more Sonic films: “I’m definitely open. They usually pitch the next idea to me, and if I think, ‘that sounds fun,’ I’ll go for it. I’m not tied to anything unless it truly interests me.”
Carrey also expressed his fondness for the crew and the fans who make these films special. He highlighted the positive energy surrounding the movies and mentioned how fans often suggest ideas, contributing to the creative process: “It’s like we’re all making this movie together.”
At the beginning of the video, Carrey shared his secret to staying fresh between projects—he “power-rests.” He demonstrated this with an amusing expression, reminiscent of his Grinch antics, and accompanied by a playful sound. It’s quite the performance, deserving an 8/10, at least in my unofficial book of good faces.
If nothing else, Carrey’s antics provide a welcome distraction from revisiting any controversial tidbits on his Wikipedia page, whether about his past views on vaccines or his foray into NFTs.
In other Sonic the Hedgehog 3 news, writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller recently shared which video games they would be interested in adapting if given a chance. This revelation keeps the conversation buzzing around the Sonic universe and its potential for future adaptations.
