The indie XR studio, The Binary Mill, has some exciting news for PlayStation VR 2 enthusiasts. Their space-faring mining adventure, Into Black (2024), is set to expand beyond its initial Quest-only release and venture into new territory on PSVR 2, drawing inspiration from the much-loved Deep Rock Galactic.
Originally debuting on Quest in October, this engaging game offers both solo and four-player co-op experiences. Players dive into 20+ levels spread across various intriguing biomes, with the core challenge revolving around scavenging resources, upgrading tools, and fixing your spacecraft. Along the way, you’ll face formidable enemies, all while trying to gather enough components to escape this treacherous alien landscape.
The PSVR 2 version isn’t just about the campaign though. It introduces the thrilling ‘Singularity’ mode, a PvPvE experience where you’re pitted against up to 11 other players in a gripping online competition. The studio teases this mode as one where “uneasy alliances are forged as you navigate an ever-shrinking maze." It’s all about collecting loot without becoming too greedy, or you risk it all.
What’s especially exciting is that Into Black is undergoing a major overhaul for its PSVR 2 debut. This includes remastered environments, enhanced dynamic lighting and shadows, and high dynamic range with eye-tracked foveated rendering. Not to mention, players will benefit from advanced haptics courtesy of PS Sense’s adaptive triggers and the immersive rumble feature of the PSVR 2 headset.
As of now, there’s no confirmation on whether the game will support cross-play with Quest users, but we’re eagerly waiting for The Binary Mill to divulge more details. Plus, while a full trailer showcasing the PSVR 2 enhancements is still under wraps, the studio has shared a sneak peek with some images and GIFs to give players a taste of what’s to come.
Though a specific release date hasn’t been unveiled, The Binary Mill hints that the PSVR 2 launch is approaching soon. For those eager to dive back into this cosmic adventure, you can already wishlist Into Black on the PlayStation Store.
