Steel Wool Studios excitedly revealed that “Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic” will hit PS5 and PC on June 13th. However, fans are buzzing with confusion as any mention of PSVR 2 support has quietly vanished, leaving some scratching their heads.
Back at PAX West 2024, “Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic” was proudly showcased with a PSVR 2 demo, suggesting a fascinating blend of both VR and traditional gameplay.
Steel Wool Studios, renowned in the VR space since garnering a $5 million investment from HTC in 2016, has crafted several immersive experiences since its inception in 2012. These include titles like “Hello Neighbor Search and Rescue” (2023), “FNAF: Help Wanted” (2019), and its follow-up “FNAF: Help Wanted 2” (2024).
The sudden disappearance of PSVR 2 references from all promotional materials for FNAF’s latest installment, especially on the PlayStation Store page for “Secret of the Mimic,” has been striking. Internet archives hint that there once was potential VR support indicated for PSVR 2, but that seems to have changed.
The last official nod towards PSVR 2 came from a PlayStation post around the game’s release date announcement on February 12th. Curiously, that post has since been removed.
Steel Wool Studios hasn’t yet clarified if or when PSVR 2 compatibility will be part of the package. There’s further curiosity about whether PC players, accessing the game through Epic Games Store and Steam, might enjoy VR features.
As of now, we’ve reached out to Steel Wool Studios for comments, but they have yet to respond. We’ll keep an eye on this situation and update with new information about any potential delays or strategic shifts regarding the VR experience.
