You know, there’s been a flood of projects over the years trying to blend different Fallout worlds together, but someone has taken a unique spin. They’ve decided to recreate what many believe is the best Fallout game in an entirely different universe — The Sims 2. Welcome to The Sims 2: New Vegas, a fan-made ‘Remaster’ that proves remarkable things can emerge when Fallout enthusiasts have a little extra free time.
This inventive project is still in progress and already boasts its own dedicated subreddit, which was highlighted by TheGamer. The mastermind behind this ambitious creation is Baron Pulitzer, also known online as FalloutPropMaster. By day, he runs an independent film production company, but in his free time, he’s been sharing regular updates on the progress of his project for about a week.
“I’ve gotten tired of waiting for an official remaster of Fallout: New Vegas,” he explained in an introductory post. “I dream of a remaster that revisits some of the cut content from the game’s beta version.” It was a couple of casino uploads by user ‘lilipad’ on ModTheSims that sparked his inspiration to recreate New Vegas in The Sims 2. Although he’s no stranger to modding Fallout 3 and New Vegas, the realm of The Sims is entirely new to him, offering both a challenge and an opportunity to learn.
In just a week, he’s dusted off old tools like Milkshape, FOMM, Blender, and Nifscope, finding both nostalgia and a refreshing pastime in the process. He’s already charted plans for the Mojave Wasteland neighborhood, which will feature iconic locations like The Strip, Freeside, and Goodsprings’ Prospector Saloon. After all, where else would you start on a project of this scale?
He’s also been busy crafting characters. There are some fun snapshots of Vulpes Inculta, everyone’s beloved Legion wolf hat-wearing guy, mingling with ghouls and even joining in on a kickball game. Plus, there’s a household filled with companions, undoubtedly sharing war stories of being used as protective shields by a certain postman with a stimpak addiction.
The latest update showcases a revamped version of The Sims 2’s user interface, infused with that classic Fallout vibe, which is a neat touch.
This is definitely a project to watch, particularly if you’re diving back into The Sims 2 Legacy Collection and find yourself yearning for another ramble through the Mojave. Picture this: a cannibal with a mission to devour Mr. House, getting accidentally despised for nibbling on a Caesar salad, and ultimately opting for the independent Vegas route, fearing the NCR’s judgmental stares. Now that’s a story worth following!
