Virtuix recently introduced a fascinating addition to its Omni One VR treadmill system: a tourism app designed to let users virtually stroll through some of the world’s most famous sites. This enticing app, named TREKS, is launching soon and promises an immersive experience by combining vivid video with the physical sensation of walking.
Come March 6th, TREKS will be available on Virtuix’s all-inclusive Omni One platform. The app, crafted by the company’s own Virtuix Studios, allows users to explore locations like the awe-inspiring Grand Canyon, the bustling Central Park in New York, or the storied Fort Masmak in Riyadh, all while physically moving on the treadmill. Exclusively available through the Omni One Game Store, TREKS is priced at $30.
Upon its debut, the app offers virtual passports to four must-see locales:
- Grand Canyon: Wander along trails and soak in the breathtaking views of this natural marvel.
- Niagara Falls: Feel the might of the falls from the perspectives of both the American and Canadian shores.
- New York City: Visit iconic spots like the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Central Park, and the Brooklyn Bridge.
- Saudi Arabia: Immerse yourself in the historical Fort Masmak and the beautiful Al Rajhi Mosque.
Virtuix Studios has plans in the works to roll out additional locations as DLCs in the coming months, promising even more landmarks, historical sites, and natural vistas to explore. Furthermore, as a bonus, an hour of trekking through these virtual landscapes promises to burn around 500 calories!
“As TREKS takes you through these destinations, it’s not just about observing but actually journeying through them,” explains Jan Goetgeluk, CEO of Virtuix. “It’s an innovative way to combine fitness with the thrill of exploration, making the experience both healthy and exhilarating.”
For $3,495, the Omni One system package includes the signature VR treadmill and a custom Pico 4 Enterprise headset, allowing for operation of native apps via its built-in chipset or connection to a VR-ready PC, either through a wired setup or wireless connection.
This follows their recent announcement highlighting the Omni One’s compatibility with over 55 gaming titles, featuring additions like the revamped Arizona Sunshine, its sequel, and Into The Radius. The system also boasts compatibility with SteamVR games, thanks to the Omni Connect PC Driver, which provides the flexibility to tailor settings and create custom controls for games that aren’t originally designed for immersive walking.
