Sid Meier’s Civilization VII is stepping into the realm of virtual reality with a version exclusively designed for the Quest 3 and 3S, slated for release next week.
Created by Playside Studios in collaboration with Meta, this special VR edition of Civilization VII is set to launch on April 10th. It’s bringing along with it the opportunity for solo gaming as well as online multiplayer, allowing Quest 3 users to either team up or compete against each other.
Much like its PC and console siblings, the game invites you to steer your civilization through various epochs of history. You’ll get to choose a leader and decide whether to form alliances or to take on other global powers in strategic conflicts.
For those unfamiliar with the expansive world of Civilization, Civilization VII – VR introduces a compelling challenge right from choosing your starting age. Each historical era offers its own unique sets of challenges and rewards. Begin in the Antiquity Age to lay down your empire’s early foundations, progress to the Exploration Age as you discover unknown lands, and advance into the Modern Age, focusing on technological and industrial advancements.
What really sets this VR version apart is its deeply immersive ‘War Table’. This feature turns the game into an interactive tabletop experience, allowing you to maneuver your civilization with remarkable precision—zooming in, panning out, and tilting the board for the perfect strategic vantage point.
You’ll get to explore and engage with rival civilizations, competing against both AI and real-life players. This dynamic setting lets you test your diplomatic skills to broker peace or prepare the groundwork for conflict.
The game debuts with both virtual and mixed reality modes. The mixed reality mode, in particular, offers an intriguing twist, with a passthrough feature that lets you incorporate your actual surroundings into the game.
