Were you planning to catch “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew” on Disney Plus this December 3? Well, there’s a bit of a change in plans. Disney has decided to shift the release up a day, so mark your calendars for December 2 instead.
Disney seems eager to bring us all into the next chapter of the Star Wars saga a little sooner than we thought. Yesterday’s announcement revealed that “Skeleton Crew” will now premiere a day earlier than initially scheduled. While it might not sound like a huge shift, Disney must have its reasons, even if they aren’t immediately clear to the rest of us! However, there’s more to get excited about—the series will kick off with a two-episode premiere. So, if the first episode reels you in, you can dive straight into the next one.
Alongside this news, Disney also disclosed the directors for all eight episodes, featuring some notable names.
Jon Watts, the creative mind behind the Tom Holland Spider-Man trilogy, will be at the helm of the first and final episodes. David Lowery, who has an eclectic mix of movies under his belt like “Peter Pan & Wendy” from last year, along with more serious films like “The Green Knight” and “A Ghost Story,” will direct the second and third episodes. The fourth episode is handed off to Oscar-winning duo The Daniels, known for their runaway hit “Everything Everywhere All at Once” in 2022. Episode five will be managed by Jake Schreier, who’s currently working on the upcoming Marvel movie “Thunderbolts.”
Bryce Dallas Howard, no stranger to the Star Wars realm thanks to her work on “The Mandalorian,” takes the lead on episode six. Rounding out the lineup for episode seven is Lee Isaac Chung, another “The Mandalorian” alum, who has also been involved in one of this year’s blockbuster hits, “Twisters.”
The official synopsis for “Skeleton Crew” gives us a glimpse of the story: it follows four kids who stumble upon a mysterious find on their seemingly safe home planet, consequently getting lost in a bizarre and perilous galaxy. Their journey home, filled with surprising allies and foes, promises to be more thrilling than they ever imagined. Jude Law is set to be the most recognizable face among the cast, and the series seems to carry the spirit of a classic Spielberg adventure film.
