Available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, Lost Records: Bloom & Rage captures my attention with incredible depth. The characters’ faces are remarkably expressive; they look and feel so real, conveying complex human emotion in a way that is both authentic and captivating. Only about three hours into the game, I find myself thoroughly drawn into its unique storytelling. Created by the talented team behind Life Is Strange, Don’t Nod brings their trademark exploration of youth and emotional intensity, but with a compelling twist: alongside reliving the memories of a pivotal summer in the ’90s, we meet these same characters in their 40s. As a person who experienced my own teenage years in the ’90s, now in my 40s, the narrative resonates deeply, offering a fresh perspective on how past experiences shape our present selves.
Stepping into the shoes of Swann, a young aspiring filmmaker, offers a unique creative journey. Swann’s ability to capture moments with her camcorder and weave them into poignant montages speaks to the raw authenticity of youthful creativity. Her process is unguarded and genuine, perfectly embodying what it means to explore art with curiosity and openness—qualities I believe are essential as teenagers evolve into true artists. The meticulously crafted atmosphere envelops you, inviting you to linger and soak in its nostalgic vibes. Though the full trajectory of the story remains a mystery to me, I’m committed to unearthing the events of that summer. This weekend, I’ll be diving back into Lost Records to uncover more about the memorable years in Swann’s life. — Carolyn Petit
