If you’re in the mood for a gaming pick-me-up that can cure any gaming blues, you’ve got to check out this Crazy Taxi speedrun. It’s really something special.
Crazy Taxi might just be one of the most quintessentially “video game” games out there—it’s loud, it’s chaotic, and chances are, you’ve seen it in an arcade and thought, “Wow, it’s been ages since I played Crazy Taxi. Let’s give it a whirl!” It’s a classic for a reason. And for the first time in what feels like forever—a whole decade, in fact—Crazy Taxi rolled back into the spotlight at the annual charity event, Awesome Games Done Quick. But this wasn’t your typical speedrun. Nope, this one featured a live band ripping through pop punk jams, making it a total blast and just as entertainingly chaotic as you’d expect.
The speedrunner bringing the action is known as Chuckles825. As with all speedruns, the goal is to zip through the game as fast as possible. Normally at Games Done Quick, you’d get some commentary breaking down the action, but not this time. With a live band in the mix, conversation takes a backseat. The band, however, has to stay as sharp as the player—stopping abruptly with level transitions and restarts adds a spontaneous touch that’s genuinely funny.
This year’s Awesome Games Done Quick wrapped things up on a high note, pulling in a whopping $2,556,305 for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. It’s a hefty sum for a fantastic cause. If you’re hunting for more entertainment, the official Games Done Quick YouTube channel has loads of fun runs uploaded, perfect for passing the time.
And hey, let’s not forget there’s an open-world, MMO version of Crazy Taxi in development. It might sound a bit unconventional, but who knows? It could surprise us!
