It seems EA and Maxis had a delightful surprise up their sleeves for those nostalgic for the early days of The Sims. In line with the celebration of The Sims series’ 25th anniversary, they are reintroducing the first two titles of the franchise. These classics become available for purchase starting today.
There were whispers that EA planned a digital release of these games for PC by the end of January, which essentially pointed to this week. True to their word, they rolled them out on January 31, right at the last hour of a Friday—a prime example of impeccable timing.
The games can now be snagged on PC through the EA app, Epic Games Store, or Steam, under their new titles: The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection. Both games are also part of a special offering called the Sims 25th Birthday Bundle.
EA expressed their enthusiasm in the announcement, saying, “To celebrate our legacy and honor the incredible fans that have been with us along the way, we’re re-releasing two fan-favorite titles. They feature cherished neighborhoods and characters—remember the sneaky burglar, the spontaneous genie, and Sunny the Tragic Clown—that sparked it all. Experience the old-school charm and magic that invited so many of you into our vibrant community.”
As for pricing, the bundle is set at $39.99, while The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection are available individually for $19.99 and $29.99, respectively. Most of the original expansion packs have made the cut. However, the IKEA Home Stuff pack for The Sims 2 is noticeably absent, which might disappoint some longtime fans.
But don’t fret! You still get two types of holiday packs along with the game, plus the H&M Fashion Stuff pack to satisfy your cravings for corporate collaborations. Additionally, for those missing out on previous releases, The Sims 4’s Throwback Fit Kit and Grunge Revival Kit are included with these editions. The former comes with The Sims, while the latter is packaged with The Sims 2—a neat perk if they aren’t yet in your collection.
So, if you’ve been lounging around in the quirky “meme jacuzzi” corner of the peculiar Sims Y2K website—part of EA’s commemorations—it’s time to shake off that meme-water and dive into these re-releases if they pique your interest!
