Bigscreen Beyond is a remarkably sleek and lightweight headset, tailor-made for those who want to immerse themselves in extended PC-based VR experiences comfortably.
With a price tag of $1,000 or a more manageable $32 per month, the Beyond offers a premium VR experience. That said, when you buy this headset, it doesn’t include built-in positional tracking or controllers. Since it operates on the SteamVR Tracking system, you’ll need at least one base station to get started, though two would be better. You’ll also need your own input devices, like the Valve Index controllers, to fully dive into the VR world.
As for the headset itself, it comes with a simple cloth strap and skips on built-in audio or even a headphone jack. However, it does feature a USB-C port for connecting audio devices. To enhance both sound and comfort, you might consider investing in Bigscreen’s $130 Audio Strap accessory.
During our hands-on time with Beyond, we couldn’t help but appreciate its compact design and the remarkable comfort it offers, making those long VR sessions fly by without the discomfort often caused by other headsets. However, the lenses, while striving for minimal size, fell short, displaying distracting reflections and some blurriness. Even with these hiccups, Beyond is setting the stage for a new breed of comfort-first headsets, with many others sure to follow its lead.
