ILM and Lucasfilm have just revealed they’re working on a new immersive Star Wars game called Star Wars: Beyond Victory – A Mixed Reality Playset. This exciting project is being crafted exclusively for the Meta Quest 3 and 3S.
The setting for Star Wars: Beyond Victory aligns with the timeline of the film Solo: A Star Wars Story from 2018. Although detailed information is scarce at present, fans are already buzzing about the podracing element that the developers have hinted at. ILM announced that players can look forward to teaming up with Volo Bolus and the legendary podracer Sebulba in this thrilling mixed reality adventure that promises to get your heart racing and imagination soaring.
The word "Playset" in the title suggests we might be treated to a variety of mixed reality mini-games, but ILM is keeping mum on those details for now. What we do know is that ILM has a methodical approach to its game rollouts, slowly unveiling characters and snippets of gameplay until the big reveal. As of now, there’s no specific release date or trailer out, but it’s safe to say anticipation is building.
However, we’ll likely get more tidbits soon. The game will be showcased at the upcoming Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, Japan, from April 18 to 20, 2025. Attendees will have the chance to try it out firsthand at the event. Meta plans to set up over a dozen demo stations not only for this game but also to showcase previous successes like Vader Immortal and Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge.
Ever wondered why they’re opting for mixed reality? According to Jose Perez III, the Director of Star Wars: Beyond Victory, this technology significantly enhances immersion. It brings the Star Wars galaxy into living rooms in ways that were previously unimaginable. Of course, it helps having Meta likely supporting the endeavor financially, just as they did with other Star Wars VR projects developed by ILM over the years.
