Exciting times for PlayStation enthusiasts and lovers of vibrant, whimsical gameplay—a standout moment transpired last night at the BAFTA awards. Astro Bot didn’t just win an award; it snagged the coveted Game of the Year title, surpassing notable contenders like Helldivers 2 and Balatro.
But Astro Bot’s success didn’t stop there. This charming title also claimed several other prestigious awards, including those for Audio Achievement, Animation, Family, and Game Design. This triumph mirrors its earlier victory at The Game Awards last year where it also secured the Game of the Year accolade, proving its dominance in a heavily packed 2024 lineup.
When the team took the stage to receive this honor, it was Nicolas Doucet who spoke on their behalf. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the team in Japan, emphasizing the dedication poured into the game. “Thank you so much to all of them, back in Japan,” Doucet said. “They crafted this game with so much love, so much care, every single day bit-by-bit. With no thought to winning things, we were just doing the best we could to make people’s lives brighter.”
Doucet didn’t forget to acknowledge key individuals who contributed to Astro Bot’s success. He thanked the game’s composer, everyone at PlayStation, and partners whose games featured in Astro Bot. His gratitude extended to the BAFTA academy, the families of the developers, and the pioneers in video game development who laid the groundwork before them.
