Blizzard might shake things up with Diablo 4’s Battle Pass, according to Rod Fergusson. For players who’ve grown weary of the current system, this hint of change is welcome news. As it stands, each season of Diablo 4 brings a Battle Pass with 90 tiers filled with unlockable items, divided into free and premium tracks. While this model requires no mandatory spending, it aligns with the general approach of many live-service games today. However, the gaming landscape is evolving, and Diablo 4 might not be far behind in trying something fresh.
During a chat at the recent 2025 DICE Summit, Fergusson characterized the existing Battle Pass format as “probably an antiquated system now.” He suggested that there are more innovative ways to engage players and give them more choice. “Watch this space,” he said, hinting at upcoming changes. Fergusson appreciates the Battle Pass model seen in Call of Duty, where players could earmark specific rewards they wanted to unlock next—a strategy dropped in Black Ops 6, but still promising for future Diablo 4 content.
While Fergusson stopped short of confirming any updates for Season 8, his comments suggest Blizzard is actively pondering how to keep their Battle Pass fresh. In the same vein, he teased the potential for more crossovers, noting that these collaborations, alongside more adventurous cosmetics, are subjects of frequent discussion at the Blizzard table.
With Season 7 recently extended, fans will need to be patient before experiencing Diablo 4’s next big update. However, there’s buzz about what’s to come in Season 8, featuring a return of Diablo 3’s boss Belial and a noticeable increase in endgame difficulty—a thrilling prospect for hardcore players eager for a challenge.
