In an exciting announcement for Civilization 7 enthusiasts, Firaxis Games has unveiled a series of updates and enhancements slated for March 4, 2025, and beyond. These changes are a response to the feedback gathered from early-access users prior to the game’s official launch on February 11.
As the first new installment in nearly ten years, Civilization 7 generated a lot of buzz, with over 80,000 players logging in on Steam shortly after its release. Critics had positive remarks overall, but some players expressed dissatisfaction, particularly on Steam, where the game currently holds a “Mixed” rating from over 25,000 reviews, with only half expressing positive feedback. Despite a rocky start, Firaxis has been promptly addressing concerns, deploying a significant patch right on launch day.
The latest roadmap, detailed by Firaxis, highlights the updates coming in March 2025 and beyond. Update 1.1.0, expected on March 4, will include various improvements to the user interface, a feature that has drawn criticism in Steam reviews. The update will introduce the Bermuda Triangle as a new natural wonder, tweaks to the Modern Age’s Cultural Legacy and Victory path, and fixes for multiplayer issues. Notably, the update will reinstate crossplay between consoles and PC, which had been paused to expedite PC patch releases. However, to prioritize quality-of-life improvements, the Natural Wonder Battle event has been postponed without a set new date.
The excitement doesn’t stop there. Another patch, 1.1.1, is in the works for March 25. This update promises a Quick Move option, enhanced customization features for naming commanders and cities, and Mount Everest as another natural wonder. It will also deliver further UI tweaks and complete the paid content rollout for the Crossroads of the World Collection DLC initiated by the March 4 update. Looking further ahead, Firaxis plans to introduce new resources, research queueing, enhanced multiplayer functionality, modding support, and additional features.
Firaxis’ commitment to improving Civilization 7 is evident from the pace and scope of these updates. Yet, the true test will be whether these efforts can win back the players who were initially unsatisfied with the game’s launch state. Only time will tell if the updates can turn the tide in favor of Civilization 7 and restore its reputation among fans.
