Even in its early access phase, Hades 2 is making waves and is already challenging the top roguelikes in the genre. We’ll have to wait for its full release to see how it measures up to its groundbreaking predecessor, but Supergiant Games is truly heading in the right direction. The latest major update, the second since Hades 2’s introduction, has just dropped and it’s a real game-changer. It not only refines key game mechanics but also introduces a monumental new finale for the surface route, allowing players to reach the lofty heights of Mount Olympus. Despite the surge of new content, Supergiant remains tight-lipped about the timeline for the game’s full version, holding back on 1.0 discussions for now.
Named The Warsong Update, this release carries significant weight for the Hades 2 universe. It’s been about four months since the last major update, and while there were several minor patches in between, none have been as groundbreaking as this one.
At the heart of this update is The Final Confrontation—your ultimate challenge and conclusion to the surface path. This segment lets you surpass Prometheus, the stoic Guardian of Mount Olympus, and ascend to the mountain’s peak. Supergiant is deliberately coy about what’s in store at the summit, but it promises to be as punishing as it is rewarding. With the Underworld and Surface paths now considered “fully intact” and packed with content, the studio plans to shift its focus to refining the core gameplay systems in future updates.
However, this doesn’t mean that cool new features are missing from Warsong. Players can now call upon the powers of Ares, the “violence-loving” god of war, and make use of a new companion. Gale, the nimble polecat, offers a range of perks including an increased Dodge chance, enhanced movement speed, and temporary damage blocking for each Region, according to the patch notes.
In addition, Arcana Cards receive a stunning artistic overhaul and some have revamped effects. Definitely give them a once-over when you dive back into Hades 2.
The update also brings a substantial shift to Boons. Many have undergone balance adjustments, while others have been removed and completely new ones introduced. Hermes sees the largest transformation with six brand-new Boons. Other deities, including Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Apollo, Hestia, Demeter, Athena, and Artemis, have each seen one Boon removed and another added.
There’s more too: over 2,000 fresh voice lines enhance character interactions, brand new content enriches The Crossroads hub area, resource collection is improved, and so much more. You can go over the full patch notes or enjoy the dramatic rendition linked above.
In spite of this massive update, with both the Underworld and Surface now considered complete, there’s no rush toward ending early access just yet.
“We’re thrilled to unveil this Major Update, packed with ideas we’ve been eager to bring to the table since Hades 2’s development began,” says Supergiant. “We’re not quite done though, with plans already underway for our third Major Update, which we aim to roll out several months from now. It’s too early to divulge further plans, especially regarding our v1.0 launch.”
