Get ready to guard your competitive rank closely, because it’s about to take a tumble next week with the release of Marvel Rivals’ midseason update. In a developer diary post, NetEase revealed that ranks will now be reset twice each season: once at the beginning and again halfway through.
In their announcement, NetEase shared, “After closely analyzing player performance, we’ve determined that the ranks established in the first half of Season 1 provide the most accurate depiction of a player’s competitive skills for that season. Therefore, we’re adding another rank reset to better sync with upcoming content and changes!”
On February 21st, you’ll find your rank dropping by four divisions. Marvel Rivals features three divisions per rank, with the exception of the top tiers—Eternity and One Above All. So if you’re at Gold I, expect to find yourself in Silver II once the reset occurs. And when a new season begins, you’ll slip six divisions. NetEase plans to keep an eye on this to ensure it doesn’t turn competitive play into utter madness as players recalibrate to their true skill levels.
Digging into some stats from RivalsTracker, it turns out most active competitive players are huddled around the Silver I to Gold III range. That means a whole swath of gamers will be mingling in the bronze tier for a bit.
If you’re on a quest for the Blood Shield Invisible Woman skin, you’ll need to climb to Gold III by next Friday. After the midseason patch, a fresh skin reward will be available. Plus, there’s a new requirement: you must complete 10 matches to earn it, meaning top-tier players can no longer snag it without putting in some game time.
This rank reset could impact certain players more than others, depending on the “major balance adjustments” NetEase is implementing with this patch. Many folks are voicing concerns about the current state of overpowered healers, and some are hoping for improvements to Moon Knight’s ultimate ability. And let’s not forget the wildcard factor when the Thing and Human Torch make their debuts in matches. Who knows what chaos they might bring?
