Gaijin Entertainment, the creators behind the popular War Thunder game released in 2013, is gearing up to introduce Aces of Thunder, an exciting new aerial VR combat game. This game is set to soar onto PSVR 2 and PC VR headsets sometime this year.
Originally announced in 2023, Aces of Thunder was initially slated for a late 2024 release. Gamers were promised an exhilarating array of some of the most iconic World War aircraft, set to take off on both SteamVR and PSVR 2.
Up until now, Gaijin has been teasing fans with glimpses of a remarkable collection of WWII planes, and they’ve recently expanded the lineup to include a number of iconic WWI-era aircraft as well.
Among the standout fighters is the legendary Fokker Dr.I, piloted by the infamous Red Baron, and the SPAD S.XIII, which was a favorite of René Fonck, the Allies’ most celebrated ace. Gaijin promises these planes will feature intricately detailed cockpits, historically accurate weaponry, and lifelike flight dynamics—tailor-made to offer a truly captivating and immersive gameplay experience.
Adding to this, players can look forward to taking control of an impressive fleet from the WWII era; this includes the agile American P-51 Mustang and P-63 Kingcobra, the formidable German Bf 109 and Fw 190, the adaptable Soviet IL-2 ground-attack plane, the storied British Spitfire, and the nimble Japanese A6M3 Zero.
While the exact release date for Aces of Thunder remains up in the air, Gaijin has indicated to Road to VR that they’re targeting a launch in 2025. Until then, eager gamers can add it to their wishlists on Steam and the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2.
Unfortunately, the price details are still under wraps, but we’re staying vigilant for any new updates about this highly anticipated release.
