Helldivers 2 has just rolled out a brand-new Major Order, and whether you’re licking your wounds from a previous mission failure or just stumbling upon its availability on Steam for the first time in a while, you’ll want to tune in. Not only to tackle your latest assignment but also to ponder the possibilities it might bring.
Following the last Major Order, which reintroduced the freshly-updated Democracy Space Station to aid in the fight against the Illuminate, we’re now heading back to confront the bugs. If you’ve been deeply immersed in squashing these insect foes, this won’t be much of a shift for you.
This new assignment may not appear particularly remarkable at first glance. Your mission is to pull 22 million common samples from Erata Prime, gather 15 million rare ones from Gacrux, and ensure that Super Earth maintains control over Fenrir III in the next four days.
What’s intriguing is the purpose behind these tasks. You’re helping to develop technology to combat “The Gloom”—a strange spore cloud that has long haunted several Terminid-controlled zones. Beyond just needing fog lights for your ship, this cloud might hold more potential.
The official briefing from Arrowhead states: “Recent experimentation on Terminids using collected Gloom spores indicate that Gloom-induced mutations may dramatically increase Element 710-yield.” They claim yields could skyrocket up to tenfold. The potential impact of these findings is immense, suggesting that The Gloom might be an untapped goldmine for new energy. Exploiting this resource could push FTL travel far beyond military and colonial needs, extending into trade and research sectors as well.
So, while this might add some fresh resources for Super Earth, there’s also the possibility that things won’t go as planned. We could end up with more formidable bugs due to escaped Gloom mutation test subjects or some similar glitch in the plan. We’ll just have to see where the chips fall. But knowing Helldivers 2, it’ll likely be a mix of both outcomes.
