The anticipation over the Nintendo Switch 2 is finally coming to an end this week, as Nintendo gears up to unveil its long-awaited console, following a whirlwind of rumors and leaks.
This scoop comes from Nate, a well-regarded insider, who gave the inside scoop on his podcast, “Nate the Hate.” In his recent episode, he shared what he knows about Nintendo’s plans for revealing this successor to the popular portable home console.
“I’m excited to announce that the Nintendo Switch 2 is set to be revealed in the upcoming week,” Nate disclosed. “I’ve been told it’s happening on Thursday, January 16.”
With just a few days away from the episode’s release date, Nate mentioned having bits of information about the reveal. However, he found these details somewhat perplexing, suggesting they might become clearer once Nintendo officially lifts the veil.
The focus of this reveal will heavily lean towards the console itself. Don’t count on a major game display, as Nate pointed out. Any potential games might just briefly appear on the console or perhaps on a TV screen depending on how the trailer is put together. So, if the reveal lacks a significant game presence, don’t be taken aback.
Drawing parallels to Nintendo’s October 2016 event, Nate noted that the previous showcase did spotlight games like “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild,” “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe,” and “Skyrim,” among others, albeit without naming them outright or making official announcements for some months.
“I don’t expect this reveal to mirror that level,” he continued. “Instead, we might just get a look at the system itself, some of its features, the new Joy-Con controllers, and possibly catch a glimpse of the new logo or even the packaging.”
As for when we’ll see more about the games, Nate hinted at a software presentation, speculated to occur late February or early March. “That’s when I’d expect Nintendo to showcase third-party and first-party games for the Switch 2. It’s hard to imagine they’d reveal new hardware without showing at least one game.”
In spite of the swirling rumors, what’s officially clear is that Nintendo has committed to unveiling the Nintendo Switch successor before March 2025 ends. They’ve also confirmed that the new hardware will support backward compatibility with the original console, ensuring continuity for gamers holding onto their current titles.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is slated for unveiling by March 31, 2025, with a global release anticipated in the same year.
