In recent times, Call of Duty: Warzone has left its players frustrated with persistent freezing and crashing issues during the loading screens. Many found themselves unfairly penalized because of these glitches. The developers, however, are not ignoring the problem and have assured that a solution is underway. Meanwhile, there is a temporary workaround in place to prevent penalty imposition on affected players.
The Call of Duty franchise had a significant year in 2024, yet Raven Software, the developer behind Warzone, has faced challenges. Late in December, an inadvertent update briefly interrupted matchmaking in Warzone. The typical issues of cheating and bugs have not eased up either. As the new year started, players encountered yet another vexing hurdle with these technical hiccups.
Raven Software took immediate steps to address the freezing and crashing issue from January 6, following numerous complaints. Although their Trello bug-tracking board still shows the problem as unresolved, they offered some relief. In a Twitter update on January 9, the developers confirmed a temporary halt on Skill Rating penalties and disconnect timeouts for players who get booted before joining a Ranked match. This move should alleviate some frustration from players who were previously hit with penalties due to this glitch.
Before the recent adjustment, a game crash meant losing precious SR points and being locked out of new matches for a while. Ironically, the player community had initially advocated for the early leaving penalty. Now that it’s a part of the game, it’s inadvertently causing complications when such bugs occur. Raven Software has suspended these penalties temporarily to ease the irritation. While disconnections before a match starts no longer result in penalties, those quitting mid-game may still face consequences.
Even with the temporary fix, the quest for a permanent resolution remains. Some players might still be dissatisfied, as bugs and disruptions in Ranked play have persisted even after a substantial update early in January 2025. The Warzone team has its hands full dealing with bug fixes and patches, but there’s hope they will tackle these issues soon enough.
In the world of Call of Duty: Warzone, players are battling it out in expansive combat arenas, including the latest Urzikstan map alongside familiar territories like Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep. With opportunities to loot and gear up for tactical advantage, the game offers rich, multiplayer experiences without requiring a Game Pass Core subscription. Despite its challenges, Warzone continues to evolve and engage its player base, balancing both immediate and long-term fixes to enhance gameplay.
