Rec Room, the popular social VR platform, offers a plethora of first-party adventures that you can enjoy with friends or dive into with random players. Its latest exciting addition, ‘Run the Block,’ has recently hit the scene and draws inspiration from the much-loved Dreamcast game, Jet Set Radio, released back in 2000.
This new multiplayer mini-game, ‘Run the Block,’ made its debut on December 11th and has already attracted an impressive following of over a million players. Much like Jet Set Radio, this free mini-game ramps up the competition by allowing you to face off against up to nine other players. You’ll race and parkour your way through a sprawling urban landscape, showing off your skills and creativity.
While you won’t be strapping on those iconic rollerblades from the early 2000s, you’ll definitely get to experience the thrill of running, jumping, and grinding along massive lines woven throughout the cityscape. It’s all about speed and style, and you can even leave your mark with some graffiti tagging in this bustling environment.
Over the past year, Rec Room hasn’t released a large number of first-party games compared to previous years. However, they did bring us the charming pet farming simulation, ‘My Little Monster.’ Along with that, the platform has been expanding its content library with branded additions like the ‘Monster High’ avatar packs and assets from the renowned Destiny shooter franchise by Bungie.
A significant focus for Rec Room this year has been enhancing its creator suite, giving users the tools to build their own intricate worlds and sell their creations within the game’s economy. Plus, the introduction of full-body avatars earlier this year has opened up a host of customization options for players.
Rec Room also expanded its reach by launching on the Nintendo Switch in November, adding to its extensive list of supported devices. These include PC VR, all Quest devices, the original PSVR, iOS, Android, Pico, Xbox, and PlayStation. With such a wide array of platforms, it’s easier than ever for players to jump in and enjoy everything Rec Room has to offer.
