A passionate Pokemon enthusiast recently shared an intriguing twist on Michelangelo’s legendary painting, The Creation of Adam. The artist envisioned this iconic scene through a Pokemon lens, portraying Arceus and Mew at the moment of creation.
For those familiar with the game series, Mew made its debut in Pokemon Red and Blue and has long been speculated to be the ancestor of all Pokemon due to its DNA containing bits from every Pokemon. However, the lore later introduces Arceus as the universe’s original creator. This artistic interpretation imagines one of Mew’s first moments as crafted by Arceus.
Artist Cordio04 turned to Reddit to unveil their unique piece, aptly titled The Creation of Mew. This version sees Arceus stretching out its leg to connect with Mew’s tail, capturing Mew’s charming ability to float, typically belly-up, while commemorating the birth of the universe itself. This tribute cleverly merges the real world’s inspiration with Pokemon’s cherished lore, making it a fitting homage to both the series and the historic Sistine Chapel masterpiece.
In a quest to further enrich their creation, Cordio04 seeks advice from the community to expand the artwork’s narrative. Inspired by the original fresco, which includes a cast of characters and symbols, the artist considers adding the Lake Guardian Trio, reinforcing their lineage as creations of Arceus. Some fans even toyed with the concept of including silhouettes of Mythic and Legendary Pokemon on Arceus’ Life Plates, although there’s a concern it might clutter the piece. Nevertheless, Cordio04 showed interest in this suggestion by potentially using color references. Suggestions to incorporate the Creation Trio were also considered, which Cordio04 intends to experiment with.
The evolution of this piece will be something to keep an eye on. The Pokemon creation myths still fuel much debate among fans, with many pondering whether Bulbasaur, the first Pokemon listed in the Pokedex, or Rhydon, supposedly the first designed, holds the truest claim to being “first.” Regardless of differing opinions, this art piece stands out for its cleverness and charm, offering a fresh tribute to the beloved Pokemon universe.
As a franchise, Pokemon hardly needs an introduction. Stemming from the creative mind of Satoshi Tajiri, it has grown into a colossal media empire, with far-reaching impacts across video games, TV, movies, manga, merchandise, and more.
