Stepping into the virtual world again, COLD VR is gearing up for its grand debut on Quest and PC VR headsets next month. This time, it’s stepping in as the spiritual successor to the renowned SUPERHOT VR, which has held its charm since its 2016 release. Fans of the game on PSVR 2 will have to hold their breath a little longer, as this version is set to roll out a bit later.
Everyone remembers SUPERHOT VR, a game that, despite its age, holds its ground thanks to its innovative time-stopping mechanics that have yet to be widely replicated. Enter Cold VR, which, while maintaining the essence, puts a fresh twist on this concept. Instead of slowing down the world as you creep along, Cold VR speeds things up when you take it easy. It makes thinking fast a necessity, with that ever-persistent enemy AI breathing down your neck. Hesitate too long, and you’re in trouble.
Developer ALLWARE revealed in their trailer release that they’ve partnered with Perp Games to make this launch a reality on January 21st, 2025, for Quest and PC VR headsets. Meanwhile, PSVR 2 players can expect to join the action soon after.
This game isn’t just about facing more dynamic enemy AI; it ups the ante with environmental challenges, from lethal lasers to shifting platforms and the occasional unexpected twist that awaits the most adventurous of players. According to ALLWARE, there’s quite the variety of dangers.
Carlos Alfonso from ALLWARE expressed his excitement, saying, “Creating COLD VR has been an amazing journey. Thanks to the incredible support from Perp Games, we’re inviting players to step into a unique experience where time turns into a gameplay element. Their involvement has been crucial in allowing us to reach a broader audience than I ever anticipated. With Perp’s help, the dream of launching on PSVR2 and Quest is now a reality. I’m thrilled for what’s next!”
Cold VR is available for wishlist right now across all platforms at a price of $19.99 / £14.99 / €19.99. Catch it on the Horizon Store for Quest 2/3/Pro, on Steam for PC VR, and on the PlayStation Store for the PSVR 2.
