Data from Amazon US indicates that Quest headset sales during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday period in 2024 didn’t perform as strongly compared to the same period in 2023.
Taking a closer look at Amazon US numbers, we can see that approximately 170,000 Quest headsets flew off the shelves in the 30 days around Black Friday and Cyber Monday in 2023. Fast forward to 2024, and we’re looking at around 146,000 units sold, marking a 14% dip in sales. It’s important to note that this data might not reflect sales trends at other retailers.
This result is a bit unexpected, especially when you consider that Meta had just rolled out its latest Quest 3S, slashed the price of the Quest 3, and even had an enticing new game based on Batman, Arkham Shadow, ready for the holiday rush.
Back in the 2023 holiday season, Meta was still selling the older Quest 2. The Black Friday deal for the 128GB model was quite enticing: $250 with a $50 gift card, effectively bringing the cost down to $200.
In stark contrast, this year’s deal featured the newer Quest 3S (128GB) for $300, paired with a $75 gift card, making it essentially a $225 purchase.
While the cost difference isn’t great, the additional $25 for the Quest 3S represents a significant upgrade in value. However, it’s clear that price isn’t the sole deciding factor here. Numerous other aspects like wider economic conditions, competitive deals, and shifts in the general appetite for VR also play crucial roles.
Looking at how the Quest 3S and Quest 3 compared during Black Friday and Cyber Monday this year, it’s interesting to see they maintained a sales ratio of about 3:1, mirroring the previous year’s trend between the Quest 2 and Quest 3.
