Green Hell VR, Incuvo’s virtual reality spin on the beloved open-world survival game, is about to get an exciting new feature. This December, players on Quest and PSVR 2 can finally dive into the highly anticipated co-op mode.
Originally revealed back in April 2023, this co-op addition rolls out on December 16th, adding a fresh layer of excitement without costing a dime for those who already own the game on PSVR 2, Quest 2, Quest 3, or Quest 3S.
The co-op experience enhances the already intense solo gameplay by teaming up players in groups of up to four. Together, they will brave the unforgiving jungle, equipped with melee or ranged weapons to hunt for sustenance or defend one another against the jungle’s vicious predators. Players can also collaborate to construct shelters, securing a safe haven from environmental threats. Incuvo adds a neat touch: characters needing medical attention will exhibit clear signs, making it easier for teammates to help out, even by removing pesky leeches from one another.
However, this update comes with a caveat. At this point, cross-play isn’t in the cards for any of the platforms, be it across PC or between Quest and PSVR 2. In a social media update on platform X, the developers explained, “We prioritized the Multiplayer update for now. Tackling cross-play would have prolonged the process. Rest assured, it’s something we’re thinking about for the future.”
Andrzej Wychowaniec, the CEO of Incuvo, expressed how significant this co-op feature is for the gaming community on these platforms. “Introducing co-op to Meta Quest and PSVR2 means a lot to our VR players, who have been eagerly waiting since our initial launch. We were committed to ensuring it met their expectations for an immersive, cooperative survival experience,” he shared.
For those holding their breath for a SteamVR version, there’s been no word yet from the developers about extending co-op play to Steam. Given the studio’s focus on other platforms, hope seems slim, especially since the Steam version hasn’t seen much action since late 2022. Incuvo has mostly directed its efforts toward launching the ‘Spirits of Amazonia Part I’ expansion for Quest and PSVR 2.
